I hadn’t written a song in two years. It’s by far the longest stretch of my life and it’s simply because it’s been too physically painful to do the singing required to write music. I didn’t have fewer ideas or anything like that but those started becoming screenplays, short stories, essays on account of this pain limitation. But Palmer kept on me to send him ideas and one day during a little writing session, prompted by a rare afternoon of relative physical calm, I wrote “Bird Engine”. I hope it’s the beginning of an album project but with what I’ve experienced I don’t take anything for granted. For now it feels nice to have another song enter this weirdo songbook of mine.
